BAHAWALPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2026) Commissioner Bahawalpur Division Irfan Ali Kathia visited the Basti Shell wheat procurement center to review arrangements for the ongoing wheat procurement drive. Deputy Commissioner Bahawalpur Syed Hassan Raza, Assistant Commissioner Saddar, and the District Food Controller were also present on the occasion. During the visit, the Commissioner inspected facilities set up for farmers, including bank counters, availability of gunny bags (bardana), and overall administrative arrangements. He directed officials to ensure that farmers face no difficulties during the wheat selling process and that all procedures are conducted in a transparent, organized, and timely manner.
The Commissioner also interacted directly with farmers present at the center, listened to their concerns, and issued on-the-spot instructions to resolve their issues promptly. He stated that, in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, wheat procurement across the province will be ensured at a fixed rate of Rs.
3,500 per maund so that farmers receive fair compensation for their produce.
He further highlighted that, under the Punjab government’s policy, free bardana is being provided to farmers, and priority is being given to Kisan Card holders during procurement. He reiterated the government’s commitment to strengthening the agricultural sector through farmer-friendly initiatives and providing maximum facilities to the farming community. The Commissioner directed concerned officials to strictly ensure transparency, merit, and convenience at all procurement centers, warning that no negligence would be tolerated. He affirmed that effective implementation of government policies would help maintain farmers’ trust and further strengthen the agricultural economy.
