SARGODHA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Apr, 2026) Commissioner Sargodha Division, Hafiz Shaukat Ali, on Thursday chaired a meeting and expressed serious concern over the performance of several key departments, including the Sargodha Development Authority (SDA) and Public Health Engineering.
He directed all relevant institutions to refocus on development initiatives and ensure the effective utilization of available funds.
According to a spokesperson for the Commissioner’s Office, senior officials from SDA, WASA, the Municipal Corporation, Housing, Public Health Engineering, and other departments attended the meeting.
The Commissioner criticized the SDA for failing to meet public expectations, pointing to issues such as unplanned urban growth, the rise of informal settlements, sewerage problems, and the lack of basic facilities. He instructed the Deputy Commissioner to convene joint meetings with the concerned departments to improve SDA’s performance and expand its development role.
During the meeting, the Managing Director of the Horticulture Authority briefed participants on ongoing projects, including park upgrades, tree plantation campaigns, and road patchwork. The Commissioner was informed that a summary seeking approval of funds for six new parks has been submitted to the Punjab government.
He stressed the need for better utilization and documentation of resources, along with improvements in cleanliness, parking, and public amenities.
The Commissioner also directed the “Suthra Punjab” initiative to accelerate desilting operations in rural areas and enhance sanitation standards, particularly along roadsides and around graveyards.
While reviewing progress under the Chief Minister’s City Beautification Plan, he expressed dissatisfaction with the slow pace of work on City Road and Katchery Bazaar. He ordered immediate consultations with traders to address their concerns and ensure compliance with commitments related to shop renovations and beautification.
Officials from FESCO informed the meeting that the installation of transformers along City Road is underway and nearing completion.
Expressing displeasure with the Public Health Engineering Department, the Commissioner directed that the city’s water supply scheme be handed over to WASA without delay to improve service delivery.
He also raised concerns over poor infrastructure in New Satellite Town, including the condition of roads and sewerage. WASA, Housing, and the Municipal Corporation were directed to formulate a joint strategy for immediate improvement.
