Commissioner orders crackdown on fake and non-custom paid cigarettes

MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd May, 2026) Commissioner Amir Karim Khan on Saturday ordered authorities to expedite action against the trading of fake and non-custom paid cigarettes across the division.

Chairing a meeting, he directed subordinate departments to activate monitoring systems on motorways and at relevant checking points to trace the movement of counterfeit cigarettes. He said suburban areas, bus stands and major shopping malls should remain under special focus as they serve as main hubs for the storage and distribution of fake and smuggled cigarettes.

The meeting decided to launch intelligence-based operations against godowns and factories to curb the manufacturing of counterfeit cigarettes.

The Commissioner expressed concern over the loss of billions of rupees to the national exchequer due to tax evasion through the illegal cigarette trade.

It was decided to ensure zero tolerance and indiscriminate action against the supply of unregistered cigarettes. price control magistrates were directed to prepare daily reports on operations conducted under the drive.

The meeting also agreed to launch a media awareness campaign on the issue. Officers of the concerned departments attended the meeting and assured the Commissioner of their full cooperation to achieve the targets.
