Commissioner Rawalpindi Division, Engineer Amir Khattak, on Monday reviewed progress on the ongoing beautification and development work in Raja Bazaar, directing authorities to ensure high-quality and timely completion.

During his visit, officials briefed the commissioner on multiple components of the project, including cleanliness measures, installation of street lighting, footpath improvements, removal of encroachments and enhancement of civic amenities.

They briefed that the work from Fawara Chowk to Dingi Khoi is 74 per cent complete. Civil beautification work stands at 60 per cent, while relocation of utility infrastructure is nearing completion: IESCO and Sui Gas lines at 95 per cent, PTCL lines at 98 per cent and WASA lines at 99 per cent.

Khattak instructed all departments to maintain quality standards and adhere to deadlines, saying the project would help provide a cleaner, safer and more organised environment for residents.

He observed that Raja Bazaar, as a commercial hub of the city, plays a key role in shaping Rawalpindi’s image, adding that its improvement would facilitate both citizens and traders.

The commissioner also ordered continued action against encroachments, stressing that footpaths must remain clear for pedestrians. He emphasized the need to strengthen sanitation systems and address drainage issues on a priority basis.

He further directed relevant agencies to ensure close coordination to complete the project efficiently and deliver improved public facilities.
