She was accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Lahore Muhammad Ali Ijaz. Chief Engineer Irrigation Lahore Region briefed the visiting team on ongoing planning and protective measures, including structural capacity assessments at key locations from Shahdara Siphon onwards.

The commissioner said strengthening of embankments and removal of obstructions in water flow were among the top priorities. She directed all district administrations of Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, and Nankana Sahib to remain in close coordination with the Meteorological and Irrigation departments and ensure full activation of District Disaster Management Committees.

She emphasized that de-silting operations remained the biggest target of monsoon preparedness across the division.

She said all de-silting work in 122 drains across Lahore, Sheikhupura, and Kasur must be completed under the supervision of chief engineers, in coordination with Irrigation Department, district administrations, and WASA.

Commissioner Marryam Khan further directed that cleanliness of stormwater drains and removal of encroachments from natural waterways be ensured without delay. She said machinery must remain readily available in flood-prone areas and detailed contingency planning should be completed in advance.

Highlighting the risk of urban flooding, she stressed focused attention on urban drainage and sewage systems, adding that timely preventive measures were essential to effectively address potential challenges during the monsoon season. She said early and coordinated preparedness would play a key role in mitigating flood-related risks across the division.
