Consistent economic policies vital to sustainable growth : Iftikhar Ali Malik

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Jun, 2026) SAARC Chamber of Commerce and Industry former President Iftikhar Ali Malik has called upon the government to formulate a comprehensive long-term policy framework aimed at enhancing Pakistan’s export competitiveness and strengthening the national economy.

In a statement issued here on Sunday, he said sustainable economic growth could only be achieved through consistent policies focusing on industrial expansion, value addition, innovation and diversification of exports.

He emphasized that a competitive economy, stronger exports and effective public-private partnership were essential ingredients for national prosperity. With a clear long-term vision and consistent economic policies, Pakistan could achieve higher economic growth, attract greater investment and secure a more prosperous future for its people, he added.

Iftikhar Ali Malik stressed the need to reduce unnecessary regulatory burdens that increase the cost of doing business and discourage investment.

He urged policymakers to focus on improving the ease of doing business, modernization of industries and measures aimed at enhancing productivity and competitiveness in global markets.

He said Pakistan should prioritize sustainable growth by promoting value-added products rather than relying primarily on traditional exports. Expanding export markets, encouraging innovation and supporting small and medium enterprises (SMEs) could significantly increase foreign exchange earnings and create employment opportunities, he added.

The former SAARC chamber president said long-term economic stability required close coordination between the government and the private sector to address structural challenges and unlock the country’s full export potential. He expressed confidence that prudent economic planning and business-friendly reforms would help strengthen Pakistan’s position in international markets and contribute to sustained economic development.
