Court hands death sentence in Chiniot murder case as six convicts punished

CHINIOT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jul, 2026) A local court on Wednesday awarded the death penalty to the principal accused in a murder case, while sentencing five co-accused to five years' imprisonment each, following what Chiniot Police described as a successful investigation that led to their conviction.

Additional Sessions Judge Lalian Imran Safdar announced the verdict in a murder case registered at Muhammad Wala Police Station under Sections 302, 148 and 149 of the Pakistan Penal Code. The court sentenced the main accused, Mehdi, to death, while imposing five-year prison terms and fines on the remaining five convicts.

According to police, the convictions were secured through the presentation of evidence gathered during the investigation, which was conducted by Chiniot Police.

Commenting on the verdict, District Police Officer (DPO) Dr. Naveed Atif , while exclusively talking to APP, said the police were ensuring high-quality investigations in murder cases and presenting strong evidence before courts in line with the vision of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif to bring offenders to justice.
