KARACHI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Apr, 2026) The city administration on Tuesday launched a crackdown against public transporters involved in overcharging passengers, following directives issued by Commissioner Karachi, Syed Hassan Naqvi.

In this regard, the Secretary of the Regional Transport Authority (RTA), in collaboration with the Traffic Police, conducted operations against bus operators found charging fares in excess of the prescribed rates.

According to the report, a total of 52 buses were checked during the operation. Passengers who had been overcharged were refunded the excess amount on the spot.

Secretary RTA Nazar Shahani, in his progress report submitted to the Commissioner, stated that a collective amount of

Rs 9,800 was refunded to passengers, while fines amounting to Rs 675,000 were imposed on transporters involved in

fare violations.

The report further stated that the crackdown was carried out at various areas including Godown Chowrangi, Qayyumabad, Cantt Station, Quaidabad, Liaquatabad No. 10, and New Town.

On the directives of the Commissioner Karachi, Additional Commissioner Karachi-I, Ghulam Mehdi Shah, supervised the operation to ensure strict implementation of fare regulations.
