LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th May, 2026) A major crackdown has been launched against prominent food brands in Lahore, resulting in the sealing of five units and fines totaling Rs. 250,000 imposed on two others.
The operation was carried out on the directives of Director General Punjab Food Authority, Syed Musa Raza, in areas including Samanabad, Old Anarkali, Moon Market, and Sundar Industrial Estate.
According to a spokesperson, enforcement teams sealed a well-known restaurant, a major store, two snacks production units, and a dairy unit of a leading brand. The dairy unit was shut down after previously collected samples failed laboratory tests. Similarly, a popular supermarket was sealed after a turmeric sample was declared substandard.
Officials revealed that one snacks unit was operating without the mandatory Punjab Food Authority license, while another was found using prohibited and loose ingredients in food preparation.
Severe hygiene violations were observed, including the presence of insects.
Expired food items were stored alongside fresh products, and rusted, broken, and unhygienic utensils were being used for storage. Food items were also found uncovered, in clear violation of food safety regulations.
More than two maunds of expired and stale food items were discarded during the operation.
DG Punjab Food Authority, Syed Musa Raza, stated that strict enforcement of food hygiene, quality standards, mandatory record-keeping, and food SOPs are being ensured. He emphasized that no compromise will be made on the quality of food items and that uniform enforcement of food laws is being carried out across all food businesses without discrimination.
