MULTAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Feb, 2026) Reported crime in Multan district declined significantly during the first 45 days of 2026 compared to the same period last year, reflecting improved policing strategies and enforcement measures, according to a performance report issued by the district police.
The report said 4,572 cases were registered during Jan 1–Feb 14, 2026, compared to 9,095 in the corresponding period of 2025, a reduction of 4,523 cases, about 75 per cent overall.
Police data showed major crime categories recorded sharp decreases, including robbery (down 75%), motorcycle snatching (down 80%), motorcycle theft (down 63%) and car lifting, the report claimed dropped to zero cases.
In anti-narcotics operations, police registered 377 cases and arrested 389 suspects, recovering 19kg of crystal meth (ice), 37kg heroin, 52kg hashish, 37kg Hemp Leaf (Bhang), besides more than 21,000 bottles of liquor and 380 litres of fermented liquor. Four illegal distillation units were dismantled.
Total 46 criminal gangs were busted with the arrest of their 114 members.
Stolen property worth over Rs 6.4 million recovered. Police also registered 81 cases related to illegal weapons, arresting 81 suspects and seizing one rifle, two guns, two revolvers, 74 pistols and 218 bullets.
Operations against proclaimed offenders resulted in the arrest of 221 absconders, while 47 gambling cases were registered and 221 gamblers arrested, with over Rs367,000 recovered as betting money.
The report says, Multan’s safety index stands at 62%, placing it among comparatively low-crime districts in Punjab. More than 50 search and intelligence-based operations were conducted during the period to target habitual offenders and crime hotspots.
Police attributed the decline to a result-oriented strategy implemented under the supervision of City Police Officer Sadiq Ali Dogar, including enhanced patrolling, snap checking, surprise blockades and intelligence-led actions. Additional deployment of the Dolphin Force and Muhafiz Squad improved visibility and response in crime-prone areas, the report added.
