RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 26th Apr, 2026) Construction of the Daducha Dam, a Rs 52,730 million project aimed at addressing water needs in Rawalpindi, has reached 60 percent completion and is scheduled to be finished by 2029, Commissioner Rawalpindi Division Engineer Aamir Khattak said on Sunday.

According to the Commissioner’s Office, overall progress includes 39 percent completion of the main dam, 62 percent of spillways and 78 percent of general dam works, while the cofferdam and diversion arrangements have been completed.

Khattak said that the work on the project was progressing at a good pace and expressed the hope that it could be completed ahead of schedule. He added that the Small Dams Organization had been directed further to accelerate work on the bridge and the residential colony.

He said the Water and Sanitation Agency (WASA) had also been instructed to complete the feasibility study for water supply schemes in Rawalpindi city and cantonment areas and to submit its report to the provincial government to facilitate land acquisition under Section 4, ensuring a timely water supply once the dam becomes operational.

The commissioner said a study was underway to assess the feasibility of hydropower generation from the dam and emphasised the need to expedite practical steps to connect nearby areas and colonies to the water supply network.

Khattak stressed that transparency and quality would be ensured at all stages of the project, adding that regular inspection of construction materials would be carried out. He also called for improved coordination among relevant departments and said an effective monitoring mechanism would be established, with progress and quality reviewed through regular field visits.
