MIRPUR (AJK) , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 21st May, 2026) Deputy Commissioner (DC) Chaudhry Sajid Hussain has directed the State Electricity Department to ensure uninterrupted electricity supply across the district and address growing disruptions caused by the ongoing heatwave on a priority basis.

Chairing a meeting with senior officials of the District Electricity Department, the deputy commissioner also urged authorities to launch a public awareness campaign encouraging consumers to avoid unnecessary electricity usage to help maintain a stable power supply during the intensifying summer season.

The meeting was attended by Executive Engineer Electricity, Arshad Mahmood Chauhan, Sub-Divisional Officers Sardar Muhammad Ali and Mr. Chughtai, among others, said a press release issued here on Thursday.

Sajid Hussain said the consumers should be sensitized about the need to conserve electricity to help prevent further strain on the power distribution system amid rising temperatures.

He instructed the department not to place the full electricity load on the system immediately after restoration following outages.

The consumers were advised to switch on air conditioners and other heavy appliances at least 15 minutes after power is restored and to minimize unnecessary lighting in homes, shops and commercial centers.

The deputy commissioner also urged residents to avoid using electric heaters for cooking purposes, adding the practice contributed to frequent power breakdowns.

Executive Engineer Arshad Mahmood Chauhan told the meeting that electricity department staff, particularly line workers, were working round the clock to ensure uninterrupted power supply.

“Wherever there is a breakdown in transformers or transmission lines, repairs are being carried out on an emergency basis to restore electricity,” Chauhan said.

He added that the department was also taking practical measures against electricity theft and excessive consumption under emergency arrangements.
