DC launches four-day polio, Vitamin-A drive to immunize over 300,000 Children

NOWSHERA, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 12th Apr, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Irfanullah Mehsud Sunday officially inaugurated a four-day polio eradication and Vitamin A campaign on Sunday, targeting immunization of 311,677 children under the age of five.

Scheduled to run in Nowshera from April 13 to April 16, the initiative involves 1,474 specialized teams deployed across district. To ensure safety of health workers, 1,262 police personnel have been assigned to provide security throughout drive.

During the launch, Deputy Commissioner instructed stakeholders to prioritize refusal cases by engaging local elders, religious scholars (Ulema), and political leaders to educate and persuade hesitant parents.

He emphasized that police must remain vigilant and maintain close coordination with health workers to prevent any security incidents. Furthermore, he directed vaccination teams to conduct thorough door-to-door visits to ensure that no child within target age group is missed.

Highlighting gravity of the mission, Mehsud stated that eliminating this crippling disease is a top government priority to protect future generations from permanent disabilities.

He concluded by urging parents to cooperate fully with the polio teams, stressing that collective effort is the only way to rid society of the virus and achieve a polio-free district.
