ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Jun, 2026) Director General (DG) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Punjab Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh on Sunday said sustained efforts under the Chief Minister's vision are delivering results through smart environmental governance, cleaner production methods, coordinated enforcement and province-wide sanitation drives aimed at improving public health and cleanliness.

While speaking exclusively to ptv news, DG EPA Hamid Sheikh praised the Chief Minister's vision for a cleaner, greener and healthier Punjab, saying the government is pursuing environmental excellence through technology-driven reforms and strong enforcement measures.

He said significant efforts are being made to strengthen air quality management across the province through scientific monitoring, improved coordination with relevant departments and strict action against sources of pollution. The conversion of brick kilns to zig-zag technology has also contributed to reducing emissions and improving environmental standards.

Dr. Sheikh highlighted the role of modern technology in environmental governance, noting that data-based monitoring systems are helping authorities identify violations and ensure compliance with environmental regulations more effectively.

He further said the Suthra Punjab programme is promoting cleaner cities and communities, while crackdowns on littering, illegal waste dumping and other environmental violations are helping create a healthier and more sustainable environment for citizens across the province.

He mentioned that international organizations, including the WHO and the United Nations, are observing Punjab’s technology-based environmental solutions and its strict implementation of the Chief Minister’s vision.

He said these efforts reflect a growing commitment to global environmental standards and sustainable governance.

Dr. Imran Hamid Sheikh added that Punjab’s approach to air quality improvement, waste management and industrial regulation is increasingly aligned with scientific best practices.

He noted that continuous monitoring and enforcement are ensuring measurable progress across key environmental indicators.

He further said that recognition and attention from global institutions highlight the province’s serious commitment to environmental protection and modern governance.

According to him, these developments demonstrate Punjab’s transition towards a more responsible and technology-driven environmental management system.

Chief Minister Punjab Maryam Nawaz Sharif has consistently championed the vision of a plastic-free Punjab, extending full support to green initiatives across the province. Her leadership has helped strengthen policies aimed at reducing plastic use and promoting sustainable alternatives, he mentioned.

He also said that the Punjab chief minister has reaffirmed that environmental protection remained a top priority of the current government, with continued focus on cleaner cities, better waste management, and long-term ecological sustainability.

Punjab is strengthening environmental quality standards through regular monitoring and compliance checks to ensure a healthier ecosystem across the province. The growing impact of climate change, which is increasingly being felt in the form of unexpected weather patterns, hailstorms, dust storms and the rising likelihood of heatwaves, underscoring the need for sustained environmental action and preparedness, he concluded.
