LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Jun, 2026) The Punjab Assembly (PA) has taken a significant step towards becoming a modern

digital legislature, with preparations underway to conduct its next session in a completely

paperless environment.

Punjab Assembly Speaker Malik Muhammad Ahmad Khan reviewed the newly installed

tablets in the Assembly Hall and termed the digitalization initiative a major milestone in

the modernization of the parliamentary system. Under the European Union’s IP-5 Programme,

the Assembly has been provided with 380 state-of-the-art tablets for members.

The Speaker said that Members of the Provincial Assembly (MPAs) would receive

all legislative documents, including agendas, bills, resolutions, questions and other

parliamentary papers, in digital format. He added that the initiative would make Assembly

proceedings more efficient, transparent and expeditious while reducing the use of time,

resources and public funds.

He said the transition to a paperless Assembly was expected to save millions of rupees

annually and significantly reduce paper consumption, contributing to environmental

sustainability and supporting the vision of a Green Parliament.

technological requirements in an increasingly digital world.

of knowledge in its era, digital technology represented the transformative force of the

modern age, promoting transparency, better governance and improved institutional performance.
