MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Jun, 2026) Commissioner Multan division Amir Karim Khan and Regional Police Officer (RPO) Usman Akram Gondal on Monday chaired a joint meeting of the Divisional Peace Committee to review law and order, foolproof security inter-faith harmony and provision of maximum facilities to mourners during month of Muharram.

The meeting was attended by Deputy Commissioner Multan Nauman Siddique, Additional Commissioner Coordination Kareem Bakhsh, SSP Operations, officers of relevant departments and prominent religious scholars. Deputy commissioners, district police officers and religious leaders from across the division also participated through video link.

Addressing the participants, Commissioner Amir Karim Khan said the Punjab government was committed to ensuring a peaceful Muharram and had empowered district administrations to take all necessary measures for maintaining law and order. He urged religious scholars and community leaders to promote the messages of tolerance, patience and unity from all mosques.

The meeting agreed that Friday sermons would focus on religious harmony, brotherhood and Muslim unity. The commissioner said special directives had been issued for the peaceful conduct of processions and majalis, adding that district administrations were maintaining close coordination with organizers.

He warned that strict action would be taken against any violation of the Muharram code of conduct. A zero-tolerance policy would be enforced against hate speech, provocative material and wall chalking.

Authorities also decided to strengthen cyber surveillance and monitoring of anti-social elements during the month.

In view of the prevailing heatwave, the commissioner directed departments to ensure water sprinkling on procession routes, establish facilitation camps and mobile medical units, and strictly implement SOPs for Sabeels. He announced that 14 permanent Sabeel points would be established across the division.

The commissioner further directed relevant departments to remove hanging electricity wires, repair faulty transformers and cover open manholes on procession routes. Road repair work and patchwork will be completed before Muharram, while all streetlights along procession routes and Majalis venues will remain fully functional. Twenty-four-hour control rooms would also be established in every district and tehsil.

He said private drones would remain banned during Muharram and directed authorities to make advance arrangements for rainwater drainage in anticipation of monsoon rains.

Giving a detailed briefing, RPO Usman Akram Gondal informed the meeting that a total of 907 processions and 3,173 Majalis would be held across the Multan division during the first ten days of Muharram. These included 160 Category-A, 380 Category-B and 367 Category-C processions, along with 507 Category-A, 1,010 Category-B and 1,656 Category-C Majalis.

He said Multan district would host the highest number of events, including 484 processions and 1,533 Majalis, for which special security measures had been finalized. More than 10,000 police officers and personnel would be deployed across the division under a comprehensive security plan.

On this occasion, religious scholars also spoke and assured full cooperation.
