LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd May, 2026) The district administration arrested eight individuals and imposed fines worth Rs128,000 on profiteers during an intensified price control drive across the provincial capital.

Acting on the directives of Deputy Commissioner Lahore Capt (R) Muhammad Ali Ejaz, 4,096 inspections were conducted in various city markets. During the operation, action was taken against 45 violations of price control rules, while six shops were sealed over repeated non-compliance and overcharging. The crackdown was carried out by price control magistrates and field teams of the district administration to ensure implementation of official rate lists and curb artificial inflation.

Officials said that prices of essential vegetables, including tomatoes, peas, and cabbage, witnessed a decline of Rs20 to Rs35 due to improved supply in the markets.

Adequate availability of potatoes and tomatoes was also ensured to stabilize retail prices.

The DC directed shopkeepers to prominently display official rate lists and strictly adhere to government-approved prices, warning that strict legal action would continue against any violation of pricing regulations.

DC Muhammad Ali Ejaz reiterated that a zero-tolerance policy against profiteering is being strictly enforced, adding that no leniency would be shown to elements involved in artificial price hikes. He said continuous monitoring of markets is underway to protect consumers and ensure fair pricing.

Citizens have been urged to report overcharging to the district control room at 03070002345 for immediate action.
