Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan Reaffirms Strict Enforcement of Code of Conduct for General Elections

GILGIT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 31st May, 2026) The Chief Election Commissioner of Gilgit-Baltistan, Raja Shahbaz Khan, has stated that strict implementation of the electoral code of conduct is being ensured during the upcoming general elections and any violation will not be tolerated under any circumstances.

Speaking at a press conference in Gilgit the Chief Election Commissioner emphasized that the core objective of the Election Commission is to conduct free, fair, transparent, and peaceful elections, enabling voters to exercise their right to vote in a secure and independent environment.

He said that an effective monitoring mechanism has already been put in place, and monitoring officers have been fully empowered to take immediate action against any violation of the code of conduct. He warned that any attempt to disrupt the electoral process, disturb law and order, or spread provocation will be dealt with strictly under the law without any discrimination.

The Chief Election Commissioner further stated that certain individuals are attempting to influence the electoral environment through social media and other means, which is a clear violation of both the electoral code of conduct and the law. Legal action will be taken against all such elements.

He added that monitoring teams have recently issued notices to some political figures and federal ministers over alleged violations of the code of conduct. He clarified that no candidate or political party will be given preferential treatment, and the law will apply equally to all.

Responding to a question, he said that the Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan had obtained a formal No Objection Certificate (NOC) for his visit, and all his activities are being conducted in accordance with applicable rules and regulations. He added that prior permission and legal compliance are mandatory for all visiting dignitaries from the federation or other provinces.

He further warned that no candidate will be allowed to organize rallies or engage in activities that could disturb public peace or law and order during the election campaign. In case of any violation, strict legal action will be taken, including disqualification and other legal measures.

The Chief Election Commissioner reiterated that the Election Commission of Gilgit-Baltistan is utilizing all available resources to ensure credible, transparent, and peaceful elections, and will not allow any attempt to undermine the integrity of the electoral process.
