CPPA has formally submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking approval for the adjustment based on fuel costs incurred in May
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-July 17th, 2026) Inflation-hit consumers across Pakistan may face further pressure on household budgets in July as authorities consider a proposed increase of 82 paisa per unit in electricity tariffs under the monthly Fuel price Adjustment (FPA) mechanism.
The Central Power Purchasing Agency (CPPA) has formally submitted a request to the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) seeking approval for the adjustment based on fuel costs incurred in May.
The development comes at a time when consumers are already facing elevated electricity bills and persistent inflationary pressures, adding further strain on household expenses.
The regulator’s final determination on June 30 will decide whether the proposed hike is passed on to end users.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>NEPRA has scheduled a hearing on the matter for June 30.
According to the petition, the average fuel cost of electricity generation during May was recorded at Rs9.25 per unit, which has been used as the basis for the proposed revision in tariffs.
If approved, the adjustment is expected to place an additional burden of around Rs12 billion on electricity consumers across the country.
NEPRA will examine the submitted data, cost calculations, and justification provided by CPPA during the hearing before issuing its decision on whether to approve the proposed increase.
