Farmers urges to follow wheat harvesting and storage guidelines

SIALKOT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Apr, 2026) The Agriculture Department has urged farmers to strictly follow wheat-related guidelines issued by the Punjab Agriculture Department to ensure higher yields and safe storage.

Speaking to APP on Wednesday, Assistant Director Agriculture Sambrial, Dr. Iftikhar Hussain Bhatti, advised that wheat harvesting should, wherever possible, be carried out using reapers or combine harvesters.

He stressed that storage areas must be vacated and thoroughly cleaned before the arrival of the new crop, and that only clean, well-ventilated warehouses should be used for wheat storage.

Dr. Bhatti further advised that the moisture content of wheat should be reduced to around 10 percent before storage. Farmers were also encouraged to use new, dry sacks treated with pesticides recommended by the Agriculture Department.

He added that wheat should be harvested only when the crop is fully mature. Farmers should also plan harvesting activities in line with weather forecasts. In case of expected rainfall, they should tie smaller bundles after harvesting and stack them with the ears facing upward to minimize damage.
