PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2026) Authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa have decided to showcase handmade crafts created by prisoners in various jails across the province, with a souvenir shop established at the Peshawar Museum for their display and sale.
The initiative aims to introduce prisoners’ artwork, including paintings and other handmade items, at both national and international levels.
A formal ceremony in this regard was attended by Secretary Culture Saadat Hassan, Inspector General of Prisons Rehan Gul Khattak, Director General Archeology and Museums Dr.
Abdul Samad, and Member National Assembly Faisal Amin Gandapur.
Under the initiative, 30 percent of the profit from the sale of these items will be given to prisoners as compensation.
Officials said the step would provide financial support to inmates while encouraging creativity and aiding in their rehabilitation.
The Peshawar Museum, regarded as one of the most significant centers of the ancient Gandhara civilization, adds cultural and historical value to the project.
Authorities have also announced plans to promote these products at the international level.
