GILGIT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 25th Jun, 2026) Like the rest of the world the people of Gilgit-Baltistan will observe Ashura (10th Muharram) on Friday with deep religious devotion, reverence, and traditional fervor.
Majalis (mourning gatherings) and dozens of Alam and Zuljanah processions will be held across all districts of the region where mourners will pay tribute to the sacrifice of the grandson of the Holy Prophet (PBUH), Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and the martyrs of Karbala.
To ensure the peaceful observance of Ashura and prevent any untoward incidents, stringent security arrangements have been put in place throughout Gilgit-Baltistan. In this regard, Inspector General of Police Gilgit-Baltistan, Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan chaired a high-level meeting to review security preparations for the occasion.
The meeting was attended by senior police officers, regional and district police chiefs, and representatives of various law enforcement units. Participants reviewed the comprehensive security plan for Ashura processions and religious gatherings across the region.
The IGP directed all concerned officers to ensure thorough checking of procession routes, effective surveillance, screening of participants, and strict monitoring at entry and exit points.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He emphasized that public safety remains the top priority of the police and that all available resources would be utilized to maintain peace and order during the observance of Ashura.
Dr. Akbar Nasir Khan further instructed district police officials to ensure the effective implementation of the security plan and maintain close coordination among all relevant institutions.
Major Ashura processions are scheduled to take place in Gilgit, Skardu, Nagar, Hunza, Shigar, Kharmang, Ghanche, and other districts. During these processions, mourners will commemorate the sacrifices of Hazrat Imam Hussain (RA) and his loyal companions, reaffirming the enduring message of Karbala.
According to police authorities, comprehensive and foolproof security measures have been finalized to facilitate the peaceful conduct of Ashura events and provide a secure environment for participants throughout Gilgit-Baltistan.
