Gilani, NAB chief discuss transparency, anti-corruption

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) Chairman Senate Yousaf Raza Gilani met Chairman NAB Nazir Ahmad at Parliament House on Thursday to discuss transparency in institutions and measures for eliminating corruption.

Gilani underscored the need for effective steps to root out corruption, stressing that transparency across institutions was vital to achieving sustainable development.

He said NAB’s initiatives were aligned with global development goals, lauded its role in the fight against corruption as commendable, and emphasized that strong institutions were the foundation of sustainable progress.

He further noted that transparency and accountability were the fundamental pillars of good governance, highlighting the joint resolve of the Senate and NAB to advance accountability.

He added that institutional cooperation was key to strengthening transparency and reinforcing the accountability process.

Gilani said an effective accountability system was essential for national prosperity. He termed NAB’s historic recovery of over Rs6 trillion as commendable and appreciated its digital reforms and public-friendly initiatives.

He also described the NAB Report 2025 as an important document reflecting transparency, adding that a corruption-free Pakistan was key to development.

Chairman NAB Nazir Ahmad reaffirmed the Bureau’s commitment to further strengthen the accountability process, stating that all possible measures would be taken to promote transparency while continuing efforts to safeguard national resources.
