ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) Chairman Senate Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani on Thursday said that efforts to eliminate corruption and improve transparency are in line with global goals, especially the United Nations 2030 Sustainable Development Goals, which highlight the need for strong institutions and reduced corruption.
He shared these views during a meeting with National Accountability Bureau Chairman Nazir Ahmed at Parliament House in Islamabad.
Gilani praised NAB for its role in promoting good governance and national development.
He appreciated the bureau’s continuous efforts to fight corruption and ensure transparency and accountability across the country.
He said that throughout his career — as prime minister, speaker of the National Assembly, and now chairman of the Senate — he has always supported transparency and accountability. He added that these are the main pillars of good governance.
Referring to NAB’s Annual Report 2025, Gilani called it an important document that provides a clear picture of the bureau’s performance and future direction.
He added that the Senate also publishes its own annual report to keep the public informed about its work and progress.
Reviewing the report, he appreciated the recovery of over Rs6 trillion, the highest since NAB was established in 1999.
He said this shows the bureau’s strong commitment to protecting public funds and national assets.
Gilani also welcomed NAB’s focus on reforms, digital innovation, and public-friendly approaches, calling it a forward-looking strategy that can help build a corruption-free Pakistan and increase public trust.
He said NAB’s continued efforts against corruption are essential for the country’s stability and progress, adding that the Senate fully supports the bureau’s mission.
The chairman of the Senate stressed the need for close cooperation between institutions to improve governance and ensure justice.
He expressed hope for continued collaboration between the Senate and NAB to achieve these goals.
He also expressed confidence in NAB’s leadership to continue its work with dedication, especially in tackling corruption and misuse of power.
Senator Saleem Mandviwala and Senator Samina Mumtaz Zehri were also present at the meeting.
