Gilgit-Baltistan Cabinet Praises Pakistan’s Diplomatic Role in Iran-US Ceasefire

GILGIT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Apr, 2026) Following a cabinet meeting chaired by Caretaker Chief Minister Justice (R) Yar Muhammad Khan, senior ministers briefed the media on key decisions and developments.

Addressing a press conference, Caretaker Information Minister Ghulam Abbas, Home Minister Sajid Ali Baig, Finance and Planning Minister Colonel (R) Abrar Ismail, Forest Minister Hafiz Sharafatuddin, and spokesperson Shabbir Mir said the cabinet appreciated Pakistan’s sincere and effective diplomacy in facilitating a ceasefire between the United States and Iran amid the middle East conflict. The cabinet paid tribute to Prime Minister Mian Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir for their efforts.

The ministers said the cabinet approved the immediate release of Rs3 billion to compensate for damages to public property caused during the March 1 incidents in Gilgit-Baltistan.

The cabinet also approved handing over nine major roads, spanning 461 kilometers, to the National Highway Authority (NHA) for maintenance and rehabilitation. Local residents will be exempted from toll taxes on these roads.

In another key decision, the cabinet approved renaming the Counter Terrorism Department as the Counter Terrorism Unit and sanctioned recruitment for 600 new police positions. Rules and regulations for appointments from Grade 7 to 14 were also approved.

The cabinet expressed deep sorrow over the unfortunate incidents that occurred on March 1 in Gilgit and Skardu. It was stated that action would be taken strictly on the basis of solid evidence, and no innocent person would be targeted. Authorities have been directed to fully support the judicial inquiry commission investigating the incidents.

The ministers emphasized that the government remains committed to ensuring justice and maintaining law and order.

The cabinet was also briefed on the establishment of “Asaan Khidmat Centers” aimed at providing multiple public services under one roof. A Federal delegation is expected to visit Gilgit-Baltistan soon in this regard.

Additionally, the cabinet approved measures to improve the fuel subsidy policy for motorcycle riders, making it more effective and accessible.
