Google has announced a new lineup of “Googlebook” laptops, marking a major change in its hardware approach. These devices are powered by Gemini and run on a system that combines Android and ChromeOS, aiming to deliver a more personalized and smart user experience.
Instead of a traditional cursor, the laptops introduce a Magic Pointer that activates Gemini when moved. Once active, it provides helpful suggestions based on what is on the screen, such as setting up a meeting from an email date or comparing two images side by side. It also includes tools to ask, compare, and combine information.
A new feature called “Create My Widget” will also be available, allowing users to create custom widgets using simple Gemini prompts. By connecting with apps like Gmail and Calendar, the system can build a personalized dashboard.
Since Googlebooks are based on Android, they offer smooth connectivity with Android smartphones. Users can access apps from their phones directly on the laptop, and a Quick Access feature allows them to view and use phone files without manual transfer.
Google is working with companies like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, and Lenovo to produce these devices, which will feature premium designs and a unique glowbar on the lid.
While prices have not been announced, the laptops are expected to compete with high-end devices like MacBook Neo, with the first models likely to launch later this year.
