ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2026) Federal Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmed Khan Leghari on Friday welcomed the Lahore High Court’s decision endorsing the government’s move to abolish free electricity units for power sector employees.
In a statement shared on social media platform X, the minister said that for the first time, under the leadership of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, the long-standing facility of free electricity units for power sector employees had been discontinued.
He said the Lahore High Court had accepted the Power Division’s petition, paving the way for implementation of the reform.
Awais Leghari noted that the abolition of free units had been a longstanding public demand, adding that the government was committed to ensuring fairness and transparency in the power sector.
He expressed gratitude, stating that the government had been given the opportunity to fulfill a key demand of the people.
The minister reaffirmed that the government would continue to take all necessary steps aimed at the collective welfare and economic betterment of the country and its citizens.
