GILGIT, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) A thought-provoking and well-attended panel discussion titled “Markae Haq” was organized by the Provost's Office of Karakoram International University.
The event brought together representatives from the interim provincial government, as well as political, religious, social and academic circles of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Participants engaged in meaningful discussions on issues of national importance. Key topics included national confidence, sovereignty and strategic stability in the context of the “Battle for Truth,” the role of political parties in national security, constitutional and social challenges of Gilgit-Baltistan and their possible solutions, promotion of religious harmony, and the responsibilities of youth, scholars, and community leaders in fostering unity.
Prominent speakers included Acting Minister Syed Adil Shah, Syeda Fatima Mousavi, Vice Chancellor Prof. Dr. Attaullah Shah, former Chief Minister and President of PML(N) Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-ur-Rehman, former Opposition Leader and President of Pakistan Peoples Party Gilgit-Baltistan Advocate Amjad Hussain, former Provincial Information Minister and Secretary Information of Istihkam-e-Pakistan Party Iman Shah, President of Pakistan Muslim League Q Gilgit-Baltistan Ghazanfar Ali, and leader of Majlis Wahdat-e-Muslimeen Mutahir Abbas, among others.
The speakers emphasized that Pakistan is passing through a critical phase and that strengthening national unity is the responsibility of every citizen. They reiterated that the entire nation stands shoulder to shoulder with the armed forces and remains prepared to thwart any hostile designs against the country. They stressed that national security is not solely the responsibility of the military but requires collective efforts from all segments of society.
Addressing the constitutional and social issues of Gilgit-Baltistan, speakers highlighted that despite being rich in natural resources, the region faces several fundamental challenges. They called for granting constitutional rights to the region and ensuring equal opportunities for its youth in the national mainstream.
On the topic of religious harmony, scholars and community leaders underlined that interfaith and sectarian harmony is a hallmark of Gilgit-Baltistan and must be preserved at all costs.
University officials, in their remarks, stated that Karakoram International University plays a vital role not only in academics and research but also in promoting national values. They said that such initiatives aim to instill patriotism, unity, and a sense of responsibility among students and faculty, preparing them to serve the nation with commitment and awareness.
They further emphasized that strong defense and economic stability are key to national progress, and result-oriented policymaking is essential in the current era. Providing youth with opportunities such as scholarships and laptops remains a priority, and both Federal and provincial governments are working towards this goal.
The speakers paid tribute to the role of Pakistan’s armed forces, noting that the relationship between the nation and its military is not only strategic but also ideological and emotional. They described the “Battle for Truth” as a broader concept that extends beyond the battlefield, encompassing intellectual, moral, and ideological struggles fought through knowledge, integrity, and character.
A large number of government officials, political and religious representatives, faculty members, administrative staff, and students attended the event. Participants termed the discussion highly significant at both regional and national levels, noting that such platforms promote positive thinking and national cohesion.
It is worth mentioning that under the directives of the Higher education Commission of Pakistan, universities across the country are organizing events under the theme “Battle for Truth.” In this regard, Karakoram International University has planned a two-week series of activities, including panel discussions, seminars, and constructive student engagements.
