Chasing 172, Multan Sultans achieved the target with eight balls remaining after losing five wickets in the process
LAHORE: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-March 28th, 2026) A fluent half-century by Josh Philippe and a three-wicket spell from Momin Qamar guided Multan Sultans to a comfortable five-wicket win over Islamabad United in the fourth match of the Pakistan Super League Season 11 at Gaddafi Stadium on Saturday.
Chasing 172, Multan Sultans achieved the target with eight balls remaining after losing five wickets in the process. The chase, however, began on a shaky note as opener Sahibzada Farhan was dismissed early with the total on 16 in the third over.
Philippe then steadied the innings alongside Steve Smith, adding 45 runs for the second wicket before Smith was removed for 31 off 23 balls on his PSL debut. Captain Shadab Khan struck next by dismissing Shan Masood for six, leaving Sultans at 70 for 3 inside nine overs.
Philippe continued to anchor the innings and built a crucial 61-run stand with skipper Ashton Turner before being dismissed in the 15th over. He top-scored with a brisk 55 off 35 deliveries, striking five boundaries and two sixes.
Arafat Minhas kept the momentum going with an aggressive 25 off 11 balls, while Turner held firm at the other end, remaining unbeaten on 43 off 28 deliveries. Mohammad Nawaz added seven not out as the pair guided their side home comfortably.
For Islamabad United, Salman Irshad and Shadab Khan took two wickets each, while Imad Wasim claimed one.
Earlier, opting to field first, Multan Sultans restricted Islamabad United to 171 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs. United’s innings was built around a 48-run opening stand between Devon Conway and Sameer Minhas, before Conway fell for 26.
Sameer scored 28, while Mark Chapman top-scored for United with a quick 40 off 23 balls. Contributions from Imad Wasim and Faheem Ashraf, who added 26 off 17 balls, helped United reach a competitive total.
Momin Qamar was the pick of the bowlers, returning figures of 3 for 24, while Mohammad Wasim Jr took two wickets. Mohammad Nawaz, Arafat Minhas and Peter Siddle chipped in with one wicket each.
