Heat wave alert issued for KP with temperatures may reach 46°C

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Jun, 2026) The Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has issued a heatwave warning across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with temperatures expected to rise as high as 46°C in several districts over the coming days.

According to the Pakistan Meteorological Department, an increase in atmospheric pressure is likely to develop from June 8 and persist until June 11, causing temperatures in most districts to remain 4 to 6 degrees Celsius above normal.

The highest temperatures are expected in Dera Ismail Khan, Tank, Bannu, Karak and Lakki Marwat, where daytime temperatures may range between 41°C and 46°C. In Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda, Mardan, Swabi, Haripur and Kohat, temperatures are forecast to reach between 41°C and 45°C.

In response, the PDMA has directed district administrations to establish heatstroke centers, cooling points, and mobile cooling units.

Rescue 1122, fire brigade services and hospitals have also been instructed to remain on high alert and ensure the availability of medical staff and emergency facilities.

Authorities have warned that the intense heat may also trigger dust storms and strong winds. In northern areas, rising temperatures could accelerate snowmelt. Citizens have been advised to avoid unnecessary exposure to direct sunlight and increase water intake.

Farmers have been urged to take precautions during harvesting activities and ensure proper care of livestock. Special attention has also been advised for children and the elderly, who are encouraged to avoid outdoor activities between 10:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m.

The PDMA stated that the Emergency Operations Center remains fully operational and citizens can report emergencies through the helpline 1700.
