ABBOTTABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th May, 2026) The Pakistan Meteorological Department has issued a warning of a significant rise in temperatures across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa over the coming days, with the heatwave expected to persist until May 31.
According to the advisory, the extreme increase in temperature may accelerate the melting of snow in northern and mountainous regions. Authorities have cautioned that snow-covered and glacier-fed areas were particularly vulnerable, as rapid melting could increase water flow in streams and rivers and might create potential risks for downstream communities.
Officials had also warned that due to the intense heatwave conditions, the risk of a glacier burst incident would not be ruled out in sensitive high-altitude regions. Monitoring and precautionary measures had therefore been intensified in glacier-prone zones.
In response to the developing situation, the Commissioner Hazara Division directed all concerned departments to remain fully vigilant and continuously monitor weather and glacial conditions.

The Commissioner emphasized that all efforts should be made to keep major and link roads open for all types of traffic to ensure smooth movement and timely emergency response.
Meanwhile, tourists and travelers have been advised to exercise extreme weather caution while visiting hill stations and mountainous areas. They are urged to stay updated with weather forecasts and strictly follow instructions issued by local administration and disaster management authorities.
In case of emergencies, the public had been advised to contact the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Tourism Helpline 1422 for immediate assistance.
