Federal minister Ahsan Iqbal says Karachi will remain under provincial jurisdiction, and no plan to bring it under federal control is under consideration.
KARACHI: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-June-06,2026) Federal Minister for Planning Ahsan Iqbal has said that there is no proposal under consideration to place Karachi under federal control.
While speaking on Geo news program Naya Pakistan, the federal minister said that under the current NFC Award formula, the federal government is facing difficulties due to revenue sharing with the provinces, and because of this sharing, the completion of strategic projects has also become challenging.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>Ahsan Iqbal said that they are not suggesting ending the Benazir Income Support Programme. Their proposal is that beneficiaries of the programme should be paid by the provincial government of the province they belong to, because under the 18th Amendment, poverty alleviation is the responsibility of the provinces.
In response to a question, Ahsan Iqbal said again that there is no proposal under consideration to bring Karachi under federal control.
