SUKKUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 9th Apr, 2026) On the directives of Prime Minister and Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, a high-level delegation of medical experts from Islamabad and Karachi visited the Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) to discuss measures to prevent the spread of measles cases in Khairpur and surrounding areas.
The delegation, which included experts from the National Institute of Health (NIH) Islamabad, Dow Medical University Hospital, and the Sindh Healthcare Commission, visited the insulin ward and pediatric emergency ward at Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences (GIMS) Hospital Gambat, district Khairpur on Thursday.
The delegation met with Captain Retired Dr. Raheem Bux Bhutti, Director of GIMS, to discuss measures to prevent the spread of measles cases. The meeting decided to conduct training sessions for healthcare workers and administrators on IPC protocol, increase the number of incubators, and ensure the availability of personal protective equipment (PPE).
The experts also recommended that diagnostic tests for measles and chickenpox be conducted at local laboratories, and that samples be sent to Karachi for further testing. They also emphasized the importance of public awareness and the use of social media to disseminate information.
The delegation praised Dr. Raheem Bux Bhutti Bhutti and the GIMS administration for their timely and effective measures to address the situation, and noted that the GIMS administration had adopted the COVID model to improve its response to the outbreak.
The meeting was attended by Dr. Azazullah Khan, Professor Dr. Saeed Khan, Dr. Wajid Hussain, Dr. Musab Amir, Dr. Muhammad Mudasser, and other officials from the Sindh Healthcare Commission, District Health Officer, Khairpur, Dr Barkat Kanhar, Dr Bukhtiar Bhunbhro, Dr Rafiq Mangi and others.
