High security alert in Gilgit amid terror threats, checking intensified across city

GILGIT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2026) Security has been put on high alert in Gilgit following potential threats of terrorism, a spokesperson for Gilgit-Baltistan Police said on Friday.

According to the police, security installations are considered potential targets, prompting authorities to further tighten safety measures. Enhanced security arrangements have been implemented at all religious sites, key installations, and offices of law enforcement agencies.

Police have established multiple checkpoints at key locations and entry/exit points of the city, where strict checking and search operations of suspicious individuals are underway.

The spokesperson urged the general public to remain vigilant and keep a close watch on their surroundings. Citizens have been requested to immediately report any suspicious activity or individuals to the police control room by dialing helpline number 15.

The police emphasized that terrorism can only be effectively countered through close cooperation between the public and law enforcement agencies.
