ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) Secretary General Muhammad Humayun Khan, on Thursday, paid rich tribute to workers, labourers, and daily wage earners across the country, describing them as the backbone of Pakistan’s economy.

In a message on the occasion of Labour Day, he acknowledged the tireless efforts, sacrifices and dedication of the working class, saying that their contributions continue to drive the nation toward progress and prosperity.

He said Labour Day serves as a reminder of the historic struggle undertaken by workers to secure their rights, adding that it is a day to renew the commitment to ensuring protection, welfare and dignified employment opportunities for the labour force.

Highlighting the party’s legacy, Humayun Khan said the PPP has always stood as a pro-labour political force.

He said that under the vision of Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto and Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto, the party introduced landmark reforms aimed at strengthening labour rights, including increases in wages, expansion of social security, pension systems, and enforcement of labour laws.

Humayun Khan reaffirmed that the party remains committed to safeguarding workers’ rights and ensuring the strict implementation of minimum wage laws.

He also emphasized the need to provide essential services such as healthcare, education and housing to workers, along with extending protection to those employed in the informal sector.

Calling upon the government to take immediate action, he urged authorities to provide relief to the labour class amid rising inflation, create more employment opportunities and adopt concrete measures to address the challenges faced by workers.

Humayun Khan reiterated that the PPP stands shoulder to shoulder with the working class and will continue to raise its voice for their rights at every forum.
