ICCI, African diplomatic community to celebrate Africa Day on June 30

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 15th Jun, 2026) The Islamabad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ICCI), in collaboration with the African diplomatic community in Islamabad, will celebrate Africa Day-2026 with great enthusiasm and grandeur.

The event is aimed at strengthening economic, cultural, and people-to-people ties between Pakistan and the African continent while exploring new avenues for trade, investment, and business cooperation.

The decision was finalized during the visit of Munsoor Kurrimbaccus, High Commissioner of Mauritius, and Ahmed Drif, Deputy Head of Mission of the Embassy of Morocco, to the ICCI on Monday.

Speaking on the occasion, High Commissioner of Mauritius Munsoor Kurrimbaccus highly appreciated the proactive role of ICCI in promoting business diplomacy and strengthening linkages with chambers and business communities across the world.

He commended the chamber's leadership for its consistent efforts in fostering international economic cooperation and creating opportunities for business-to-business engagement.

Deputy Head of Mission of the Moroccan Embassy, Ahmed Drif, highlighted the longstanding friendly relations between Pakistan and Morocco.

He emphasized the immense potential that exists for enhancing bilateral trade, investment, tourism, and cultural exchanges and stressed the need for greater collaboration between the public and private sectors of both countries.

Addressing the gathering, ICCI President Sardar Tahir Mehmood stated that Africa held a place of special importance in Pakistan's foreign economic and trade policy.

He noted that the African continent offers vast opportunities in trade, investment, agriculture, mining, information technology, tourism, education, and infrastructure development.

He expressed confidence that the forthcoming African Day celebration would serve as a significant platform for bringing together diplomats, business leaders, investors, and policymakers from Pakistan and African countries, thereby opening new avenues for economic cooperation and mutually beneficial partnerships.

"The African Day celebration will not only highlight the rich cultural diversity of Africa but will also provide an excellent opportunity to showcase the trade and investment potential of African nations and strengthen commercial linkages between Pakistan and the continent," he remarked.

Convener ICCI Standing Committee on Diplomatic Affairs, Zafar Bakhtawari, underscored the importance of deepening relations between Pakistan and African countries through enhanced cultural diplomacy.

He stressed that the exchange of business delegations, cultural groups, academic collaborations, and the introduction of each other's cuisines could play a vital role in promoting people-to-people contacts and fostering greater mutual understanding.

He said that stronger cultural and social interactions would complement economic relations and help build long-term partnerships between the peoples of Pakistan and Africa.

The participants agreed that African Day 2026 would provide a unique opportunity to celebrate the enduring friendship between Pakistan and African nations while laying the foundation for stronger economic, cultural, and diplomatic engagement in the years ahead.

The event is expected to attract ambassadors, diplomats, government representatives, business leaders, investors, members of the diplomatic corps, and representatives of the corporate sector from Pakistan and various African countries.
