IG Balochistan emphasizes modern policing, rewards districts for outstanding performance

QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Apr, 2026) Inspector General of Police Balochistan, Muhammad Tahir has stressed the importance of strengthening the investigation system to ensure modern policing and effective public service.

He said that self-accountability and individual responsibility are key to eliminating crime, while protecting citizens’ lives and property remains the police’s foremost duty.

The IG made these remarks during a meeting with trainee Deputy Superintendents of Police from Sindh, led by Deputy Commandant Sarfraz Ahmed Falaki of the National Police academy Islamabad, at the Central Police Office Balochistan.

Senior officers including Additional IG Operations Agha Muhammad Yousuf, DIG Finance Sohail Ahmed Sheikh, AIG Operations Naveed Alam, Course Commander Muhammad Jawad Ishaq, and other officials were present.

The IG urged young officers to adopt professionalism, modern policing practices, and a spirit of public service.

He advised them to be good listeners and learners rather than merely authority figures, stressing that field experience is invaluable for future responsibilities.

He highlighted the growing importance of IT-based policing, encouraging officers to focus on new trends and skills.

Addressing female officers, he said they can serve as role models for women citizens, ensuring that women’s issues are addressed without compromise.

The IG noted that reforms are underway in Balochistan Police, including the training of former Levies personnel who were merged into the police force.

Since January 1, 2026, a three-month training program has been in progress to enhance their professional capabilities.

He praised all ranges, DIGs, and SSPs for their effective discipline and performance during a special campaign to arrest proclaimed offenders. Districts showing exceptional results were rewarded prizes, Kachhi: Rs. 250,000, Hub: Rs. 200,000, Quetta: Rs. 150,000, Sibi: Rs. 100,000, Kohlu: Rs. 75,000 and Ziarat: Rs. 75,000

Kohlu and Ziarat were commended for achieving 100 percent arrests of wanted criminals, with other districts urged to follow their example.

The IG highlighted ongoing open courts chaired by DIGs and SSPs to strengthen trust between police and citizens.

He emphasized easy access to area police officers for the public and outlined several modern initiatives, including mobile units for character certificates and e-licenses, Safe City cameras to improve traffic management and monitor criminal activity, establishment of a Serious Crime Investigation Wing to handle complex cases.

Muhammad Tahir added that under the self-accountability system, corrupt elements are being dealt with, while officers showing good performance are rewarded with commendations and certificates.

The IG reaffirmed that Balochistan Police has the largest force among provinces, with welfare programs ensuring support for families of martyrs. Educational facilities for children of police personnel are being provided through Police Grammar Schools.
