IHC reserves verdict on case against appointment of Ex-NAB Director

The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday reserved its verdict on a petition challenging the appointment of former NAB Director General Shahzad Saleem, citing lack of requisite education and experience

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th May, 2026) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Tuesday reserved its verdict on a petition challenging the appointment of former NAB Director General Shahzad Saleem, citing lack of requisite education and experience.

Justice Arbab Muhammad Tahir heard the case. Senior Advocate Akram Sheikh appeared before the court on behalf of former DG NAB Shahzad Saleem. The National Accountability Bureau (NAB) was represented by Deputy Prosecutor General Waqar Hussain Naqvi and Rafay Maqsood, among others.

NAB officials argued that Shahzad Saleem could not have been appointed to NAB in terms of his experience and educational qualifications.

Advocate Akram Sheikh submitted before the court that a constitutional court had already ruled that once a case is closed, it cannot be reopened. "I am not taking any fee in this case. I have only come to assist the court," he said. He further contended that NAB is now retreating from its own stance taken seven years ago.

After hearing arguments from both sides, the court reserved its verdict. A decision is expected at a later date.
