ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jun, 2026) The Islamabad High Court (IHC) has issued notices to the Motorway Police and other respondents on a petition challenging the reduction of speed limits on highways as part of the government's austerity measures, and sought their responses.
According to a written order issued by Chief Justice Sardar Muhammad Sarfraz Dogar following the previous hearing, the court adjourned the case until June 23.
The petitioner, through counsel, argued that there is no legal provision allowing speed limits to be reduced merely for the purpose of fuel savings or austerity measures.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The counsel contended that the Motorway Police order reducing speed limits was unlawful.
The petition requests the court to declare the reduction in speed limits illegal and order the refund of all fines imposed under the revised limits since March 26.
The court has directed the Motorway Police and other relevant parties to submit their replies at the next hearing.
