MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th Apr, 2026) Masood Khan, former ambassador of Pakistan to the United States, China, and the United Nations,in a statement released on Tuesday, has stressed the urgent, critical, and pressing need for an immediate ceasefire between the United States and Iran, warning that continued hostilities could trigger devastating consequences across the region and beyond. Initially, he highlighted that without halting the violence, meaningful diplomatic engagement would remain unattainable.

In his statement, he described Pakistan’s role as a delicate and responsible mediator, noting that Islamabad is working actively and strategically to engage multiple stakeholders. Moreover, he strongly emphasized that ongoing attacks and counterattacks are undermining efforts to create space for constructive dialogue, therefore making an immediate ceasefire indispensable.

Subsequently, Ambassador Khan outlined Pakistan’s proactive diplomatic outreach with key partners including China, Egypt, Türkiye, and Saudi Arabia.

He revealed a structured five-point framework focusing on ceasefire, humanitarian assistance, dialogue initiation, and long-term resolution of contentious issues such as Iran’s nuclear programme and regional security concerns. Furthermore, he warned that attacks on civilian infrastructure raise serious questions about adherence to international law and humanitarian norms.

He also observed that the evolving conflict reflects complex geopolitical realities, with differing regional interests shaping responses. He noted that Iran’s resilient and adaptive military strategies are reshaping modern warfare dynamics, while disruptions in strategic routes like the Strait of Hormuz could significantly impact global energy markets. Ultimately, Ambassador Khan urged restraint and dialogue, asserting that diplomacy remains the only viable path to prevent a wider regional crisis.
