Interfaith harmony conference renews pledge for peaceful Muharram

FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jun, 2026) Prominent religious scholars from various schools of thought on Monday renewed their commitment to promote inter-sect harmony, tolerance and peaceful coexistence during Muharram-ul-Haram, declaring national unity and religious brotherhood essential for maintaining peace and stability in the country.

The pledge was made during a conference organized in Faisalabad by a delegation of the Inter-Muslim Unity Committee, which visited the city on the directions of Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif as part of efforts to ensure peaceful observance of Muharram across the province.

Provincial Khateeb of Auqaf Department Maulana Mukhtar Ahmad Nadeem led the delegation while Regional Police Officer (RPO) Suhail Akhtar Sukhera, Additional Commissioner Coordination Tanveer Murtaza, Additional Deputy Commissioner General Anwar Ali, Admin Officer Riaz Hussain Anjum and other officials attended the conference.

The delegation also included Sahibzada Hafiz Muhammad Qasim, Mufti Zia Madani, Zahid Mahmood Qasmi, Riaz Hussain Kharl and Maulana Nasrullah.

A large number of leading religious scholars representing different schools of thought participated in the event.

Addressing the conference, Maulana Mukhtar Ahmad Nadeem stressed that all Muslims should adhere to the teachings of the Holy Quran and Sunnah to strengthen mutual understanding and harmony.

He emphasized that the scholars belonging to all schools of thought, along with the district administration, should further strengthen coordination and communication during Muharram.

He said that strict adherence to the code of conduct prescribed for processions and religious gatherings would help maintain law & order and ensure peaceful observance of religious events.

The participants collectively prayed for peace, unity, tolerance and brotherhood and reaffirmed their resolve to work jointly for promoting harmony, religious tolerance and peaceful observance of Muharram-ul-Haram throughout the province.
