The Iranian military says attacks were launched in response to what it described as “aggressive airstrikes” by Israel and the United States on Iranian residential and non-military areas
TEHRAN: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 1st, 2026) Iran’s military has claimed carrying out drone strikes targeting US military assets in the region, including AWACS surveillance aircraft and aerial refuelling planes, according to an official statement.
In a statement issued by its public relations wing, the Iranian military said the attacks were launched in response to what it described as “aggressive airstrikes” by Israel and the United States on Iranian residential and non-military areas.
The statement said Iranian forces targeted locations of US AWACS and refuelling aircraft at Ben Gurion Airport, along with radar installations and electronic warfare sites in the United Arab Emirates. It added that advanced “Arash-2” drones, capable of flying up to 2,000 kilometres, were used in the operation.
Separately, the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) said that under the 89th wave of its ongoing operation, it had launched coordinated strikes on Israeli cities and US-linked targets.
According to the IRGC, more than 100 heavy missiles, attack drones, and around 200 rockets were fired across a wide area of West Asia, targeting multiple locations from north to south of Israeli-held territories. It claimed that military sites in cities including Eilat, Tel Aviv, and Bnei Brak were hit, resulting in significant casualties.
The statement further claimed that a US military base in Bahrain, reportedly housing around 80 personnel, was struck with precision. Additionally, a US helicopter unit at Al-Udeid base was targeted with ballistic missiles, allegedly destroying one helicopter and damaging others.
The IRGC stated that the operation is ongoing and that further details will be released as the situation develops.
