MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 8th Apr, 2026) Ambassador Sardar Masood Khan has hailed the so-called “Islamabad Accords” as a decisive breakthrough that helped halt a dangerous 40-day conflict involving the United States, Iran and Israel, averting what he described as a potential regional and global war. In a statement issued on Wednesday, the former President of Azad Jammu and Kashmir said Pakistan’s timely diplomatic intervention underscored its emergence as a credible peacemaker during a period of heightened geopolitical tensions.

He noted that as hostilities escalated among major powers, Pakistan remained actively engaged in shuttle diplomacy, maintaining contact with key stakeholders in Tehran, Washington and Gulf capitals. These sustained efforts, supported by major international actors including China, Russia and European partners, helped create the conditions necessary for a ceasefire and opened the door to structured negotiations.

Ambassador Khan cautioned that conflicts of such scale often spiral beyond their initial scope, citing historical precedents of limited wars evolving into prolonged global crises. In this instance, he said, Pakistan’s intervention prevented wider escalation, limiting the involvement of additional regional and global players and preserving fragile stability in the middle East.

He added that while the ceasefire remains a temporary arrangement, it offers a critical window for addressing complex issues through dialogue, including Iran’s nuclear programme, regional security, sanctions relief and the future of the Strait of Hormuz. Concluding, he said Pakistan’s diplomatic role has earned international confidence and positioned the country as a key facilitator for future negotiations, expressing hope that sustained engagement will lead to lasting peace and stability.
