Residents in Beirut report continuous explosions that echoed across the city while thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from multiple areas of the capital following the attacks

BEIRUT: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 8th, 2026) Israeli forces launched one of the most intense aerial offensives in Lebanon, despite a ceasefire with Iran remaining in place, causing heavy casualties and widespread destruction.

The Lebanon’s Ministry of Health said that at least 89 people were killed and around 700 others injured in the latest wave of Israeli airstrikes on Wednesday.

Residents in Beirut reported continuous explosions that echoed across the city, while thick plumes of smoke were seen rising from multiple areas of the capital following the attacks.

The Israeli military stated that, in one of its largest and most coordinated operations since the escalation began, more than 100 sites linked to Hezbollah, including command centers and military installations, were targeted across Beirut, the Bekaa Valley, and southern Lebanon.

Health authorities confirmed that dozens of casualties were recorded throughout the day, prompting hospitals to declare an emergency, while citizens were urged to donate blood to support the injured.

Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said the ceasefire with Iran does not extend to Lebanon, while Defense Minister Israel Katz stated that the strikes inflicted significant damage on Hezbollah’s infrastructure.

Iran is considering withdrawing from the ceasefire agreement if Israel continues its military operations in Lebanon, according to a report by the Iranian news agency Tasnim citing informed sources.

The report stated that Tehran is reviewing the possibility of exiting the ceasefire deal if the Israeli government persists with its actions against Lebanon.

Sources said the two-week ceasefire plan, brokered with the involvement of the United States, included a commitment to halt hostilities on all fronts, including operations against Hezbollah in Lebanon. However, Israel’s latest strikes on Lebanese territory have been described as a clear violation of the agreement.

According to the sources, Iran is not only weighing the option of withdrawing from the ceasefire but is also identifying potential targets in response to Israeli attacks on Lebanon.

They further warned that if the United States fails to restrain its regional ally, Iran may take direct action and respond with force.
