FAISALABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Apr, 2026) Managing Director (MD) Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) Saqib Raza said that Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) has expanded technical support in Faisalabad to improve water supply and curb wastage issues in the city.
In this connection, JICA technical delegation met MD Water & Sanitation Agency (WASA) and shared its work plan following the extension of the Technical Assistance Project.
During meeting, it was decided that the extension of the project would pave the way for launching three key initiatives including installation of smart meters on water supply connections, complete digitalization of the water supply system, and business improvement measures within WASA.
MD WASA said that provision of clean drinking water to citizens remains the top priority, adding that the support of JICA is instrumental in achieving sustainable improvements in water management.
He expressed gratitude to the Japanese agency for extending technical cooperation in Faisalabad.
He further explained that the installation of smart meters would help ensure that water is used according to actual needs, significantly reducing wastage.
The digitalization of the system would enhance monitoring and operational efficiency while business improvement initiatives are expected to strengthen revenue recovery of the department, he added.
He said that the visiting JICA team has arrived in Faisalabad to initiate groundwork on the newly added components of the project, which are expected to bring long-term benefits in ensuring efficient water distribution and conservation.
The meeting concluded with a commitment to accelerate implementation of the expanded project to ensure better service delivery, minimize losses, and provide uninterrupted access to safe drinking water for residents.
