MIRPUR (AJK) , (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 13th May, 2026) Hameeda Mir, a pioneering educationist and the first woman in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) to earn a graduate degree died at the age of 90, family members and education officials said on Wednesday.
Mir died in Mirpur and was buried later the same day in her ancestral graveyard in the city.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>She served for 10 years as headmistress of Government Girls High school Kalyal in Mirpur and also headed several other schools in the region during her career.
Mir later served as Director Education, Kotli for a decade, where officials said she played a key role in the development of the education sector .
According to family sources and officials in the state education department, Mir was the first woman in the region to obtain a graduate degree, helping open the way for future generations of women pursuing education.
She spent her entire life in Mirpur.
