PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 22nd Jun, 2026) Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Minister for Religious and Minority Affairs, Sahibzada Adnan Qadri on the directives of Chief Minister Sohail Afridi on Monday visited the Mardan Gurdwara and expressed solidarity with the Sikh community following the tragic murder of a Sikh couple.
Members of the provincial assembly including Zahir Shah Toru and Abdus Salam Afridi along with senior police and district administration officials accompanied the minister.
The provincial government announced a relief package of Rs40 million for the Gurdwara and Rs1 million each for the families of the two deceased victims.
Condemning the brutal killings, Qadri said the entire provincial government was deeply saddened by the incident and shared the grief of the bereaved families.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He emphasized that islam is a religion of peace that promotes the protection of non-Muslims, interfaith harmony and tolerance.
The minister noted that the Sikh community has been an integral part of the region for centuries and continues to play an important role in society. He said that police were conducting a thorough investigation and that both the chief minister and he had been closely monitoring the case.
Praising the performance of Mardan Police, Qadri said the arrest of the suspect within 24 hours was a commendable achievement that helped restore public confidence.
Qadri reaffirmed that the government remains committed to religious tolerance, interfaith harmony and the protection of minority communities across the province.
