PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government on Thursday accelerated efforts to clear long-pending dues of newspapers and strengthen public outreach through its FM radio network during a high-level meeting of the Information Department.
The meeting, chaired by Special Assistant to the Chief Minister on Information Shafi Jan, reviewed progress on payments to media organizations and the performance of departmental FM radio stations. Senior officials, including Secretary Information Matiullah and Director General Muhammad Imran, attended the session.
Officials informed the meeting that payments to newspapers are being processed at an improved pace in line with court directives and decisions of the provincial cabinet. Coordination with relevant departments is ongoing to ensure timely settlement of outstanding liabilities, with initial results described as encouraging.
The forum was also briefed on the role of FM radio stations in raising public awareness on social issues and relaying citizens’ concerns to authorities.
It was noted that the department’s radio network currently reaches around 41 percent of the province’s population, with 10 stations operational across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The meeting was told that a structured mechanism is being developed to address old liabilities in a transparent manner, while improving overall financial management within the department.
Speaking on the occasion, Shafi Jan directed officials to further expedite reconciliation and payments, stressing the need for complete transparency in advertisement releases and financial matters.
He said the government is committed to modernizing the Information Department to meet contemporary media needs and enhance effective communication with the public.
