KP legislative committee reviews key legal reforms to strengthen justice system

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) An important meeting of the Legislative Committee here on Thursday deliberated on key legal reforms aimed at strengthening the justice system and improving access to timely justice in the province.

The meeting was chaired by Provincial Minister for Law, Aftab Alam and attended by the Advocate General Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Senior Member board of Revenue (SMBR), Secretary Law, Special Secretary Home, and representatives of the Social Welfare, Finance, and other relevant departments, along with legal experts and senior officials.

The participants held detailed discussions on proposed amendments to the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Subordinate Judicial Service Tribunal Act, 1991, the Alternate Dispute Resolution (ADR) Act, and the Code of Criminal Procedure (KP).

Speaking on the occasion, Aftab Alam said the provincial government is taking practical measures to reinforce the rule of law, ensure timely delivery of justice, and safeguard the rights of vulnerable segments of society.

He emphasized that strengthening the ADR mechanism would help reduce the burden on courts and facilitate swift resolution of disputes.

The committee also reviewed proposed changes to Section 117, Subsection 22-A of the Code of Criminal Procedure Amendment Bill, while a comparative analysis of amendments to the Subordinate Judicial Service Tribunal Act was presented to improve transparency and institutional performance.

Deliberations were also held on Clause 7 of the ADR Amendment Bill concerning the formation of the Arbitrators Selection Committee, which is proposed to include key administrative, judicial, and law enforcement representatives.

The meeting highlighted the need to address public trust issues in the ADR system, particularly in the merged districts, to ensure its effectiveness.

The Advocate General informed the forum that efforts are underway to further strengthen ADR through research-based legal review.

The Law Minister directed authorities to finalize all proposed amendments in line with legal requirements and ensure consultations with stakeholders so that legislation reflects public needs and ground realities.

The meeting concluded with consensus on several proposals and issuance of necessary directions for future action.
