KP Minister calls for collective action on climate change at consultative meeting

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) Provincial Minister for Relief, Rehabilitation and Settlement, Aqib Ullah Khan on Thursday underlined the importance of coordinated and comprehensive planning to safeguard infrastructure and communities, reiterating the government’s commitment to proactive measures against climate-related threats.

He was addressing a consultative meeting on the National Environmental Strategy and National Adaptation Plan held here with a focus on strengthening preparedness against climate-related challenges.

Addressing the meeting, the minister said the provincial government is making efforts to enhance local-level capacity to mitigate the impacts of climate change.

He stressed that tackling the growing challenges posed by climate change is a collective responsibility and urged the Federal government to fulfill its due role in this regard.

The meeting reviewed preparedness measures for the upcoming monsoon season, with particular emphasis on reducing flood risks, improving early warning systems, and ensuring effective monitoring of rivers and streams.

Participants also discussed the identification of vulnerable areas, improvement of drainage infrastructure, and the need for community awareness campaigns to minimize risks to human lives and property.
